Saves
Desktop edition
Campaign (8), then Save, keeps up to five campaigns in slots. When you save over a slot, its old save is kept as a .bak file. The game asks you to save before quitting, loading or starting a new game. The desktop edition does not save by itself.
Saves are kept in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Sengoku - Road to Unification\saves on Windows and ~/.config/Sengoku - Road to Unification/saves/ on Linux. They are left alone when you upgrade or uninstall. Save files end in .sav.
Browser edition
The same five slots, each with a backup of its previous save. The browser edition also saves itself at the end of every month, and Continue on the title screen picks up from there. Saves are kept in the browser's own storage on your computer. They are not on the server, so they stay on that computer and that browser. Clearing the browser's site data deletes them.
Multi-player games are kept on the server, not in your browser: see Multi-player games.
Old saves
Both editions write save format 3, which can hold several human clans for multi-player games. Saves in the earlier formats 1 and 2 still open, and are updated when the game next saves. Desktop builds from before 1.1.0 cannot open format 3 saves.
