THE BROKEN SEAL 0.5.0 - RELEASE VALIDATION
3 November 2026

Build host: Kubuntu/Ubuntu amd64, FPC 3.2.2, Lazarus 4.4 (GTK 2 for Linux;
LCL compiled from source for the win32 widget set for Windows).

Automated rules and desktop campaign tests (built with range and overflow
checks):
  15,522 desktop checks, including mouse hit testing, the music (whole bars,
  loop length, no clipping or offset, WAV output); including 10,000 consecutive simulated months;
  adjacency and reachability on random 32-province maps (20 maps for each
  of the three scenarios); every province reachable by the arrow keys;
  saves from 0.3.0 (format 2) and from development format 3 load on the
  24-province grid; a 0.4.3 save (format 4) loads with rested officers and
  fresh towns, plays a month and saves again; a 0.4.4 save (format 5) loads
  with outlaw camps at training 50.
  1,433 scenario checks, including conquest and governors (held but unsettled,
  no tax or orders, the commander governs and his army joins the garrison,
  computer houses settle what they take), training (recruits untrained, men joining
  share training by numbers, outlaw camp training), one governance order a province, the town
  (recruit pool, market buy and sell, hiring at the inn), stamina (work,
  rest, idleness, too tired to act or travel), winter roads, the three scenarios' starting provinces,
  120-month runs of each scenario, and officer faces and epithets.
  Hex battles: field and lines (open ground, one piece per arm, one to a
  hex), hex distances, movement points, attack/shoot/move rules, walls and
  the gate, retreat, the result written back (no men gained, losses add
  up), odds checks (even fights go either way, three to one wins, walls
  help) and a 60-month campaign with every battle fought on the field.
  tools/hexbalance: 30 computer-only games of 20 years with every battle
  on the field against the automatic battles: attackers won 1,731 of
  2,135 against 1,814 of 2,186; no rule errors, no invalid worlds.
  A battle was played in the running game (Xvfb) by keyboard and by mouse
  in the open and at walls, through to the governor question, and in the
  Windows build under Wine.
  900 random maps generated and checked with no failures.
  Balance, 20 computer-only games of 20 years: 2 won (4 in 0.4.4, 6 before
  stamina and the town), 68 provinces changing hands a game (60 in 0.4.4).
  Balance runs: computer houses attack each other as well as the player;
  a stand-in player at Normal kept on average 12 provinces after 20 years
  against Easy and 6 against Hardest; being attacked by two houses at once
  happened about one month in 20 years, for the stand-in and for computer
  houses alike.

Linux package:
  Package metadata and contents inspected with dpkg-deb.
  Package extracted; its stripped executable passed the Xvfb GUI tests
  (a click on the title screen leaves the game open, the month's news
  ticker, setup screens, officer card, assignment, diplomacy, map views, quicksave,
  month resolution, hotseat handover).
  apt-get --simulate: upgrades an installed 0.4.6 with no other changes;
  installed on the build host over 0.4.6.
  Source archive extracted, rebuilt for Linux; its tests passed.

Windows installer (tested under Wine 64-bit, not on real Windows):
  Per-user install with no administrator rights (msiexec /qn); program,
  docs and source archive installed under
  %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\The Broken Seal.
  The installed program started, ran the setup screens, showed the guide,
  the map views and the review, resolved a month and wrote its autosaves
  in %APPDATA%\BrokenSeal.
  The installer is not code-signed.

Not tested: real Windows 10/11, high-DPI displays, a second copy started
while one is running on Windows. This validates the tested configurations
and exercised mechanics; campaign balance has not been exhaustively
established.
